I am a photography student at Camberwell College of Art (University of the Arts London), soon to be starting my third and final year of study. Inspiration comes to me in a variety of forms, and I am interested in a multitude of things. I may study at a fine art institution but strive to be a successful photographer in any way I can succeed, and be able to shoot what I want just because of that reason. I don't see why everything has to have a narrative, and love the medium - not the career choice.

I like to use DeviantART mainly to see what an artistic audience thinks of what I produce and to find inspiration I would otherwise miss if the internet wasn't invented. I am interested in many other mediums of art, it's nice to see what other people around the world do.

I appreciate any feedback whatsoever, hit me up on facebook or flickr if ya want to discuss arty or nerdy stuff - and if you're local then i'm up for exhibitions/group work/anything!

summer :(

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 27, 2010, 6:25 AM

So summer has all but gone away and I am yet to go on holiday (September 4th wooo!) but yeah, I don't start back at Uni until October 5th (my 22nd birthday, how unlucky is that!)so I have been thinking about some ideas for "creative" works before then.

I have been interested in photograms for quite some time and last year I did focus on photograms for a project or two - being heavily influenced by the work of Susan Derges and many others like Man Ray and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy to name a few - but my work concentrated on the objects being used rather than the technique. I was interested in re-using and recycling unused and unwanted objects, items that once has a use but were no longer needed and were disposed of. To cut a long story short I created globes with electrical circuitry and whatnot and made photograms showing that what was once not wanted can create something beautiful.

I am still interested in creating work with discarded objects but I am also becoming increasingly interested in making paper from natural materials and using liquid light - two techniques I have used before but on a very limited scale. I like challenging what a photograph actuall is, and the whole notion of needing to have an idea or narrative behind a series of images rather than just shooting because you can and because it looks good. Since I have been at university I have struggled with having to explain why I do something, usually I just do whatever comes in my head as it seems like a good idea - i'm now trying to learn to focus on what has a distinct meaning, and to me this is meaningful, creating paper from natures waste. I like the idea of capturing summer in a physical form and capturing the physical in a non-physical way (i.e. the photograph) and then merging them together - perhaps printing on homemade paper is something I could work with, along with my work with shadows and the sky that I seem to have carried on for a long while (Transferring The Sky).

So yes, I am confused with what i'm doing at uni and now i'm all in a panic as I have to have a "summer project" - I can't get away with "work in progress" again can I? I think not...
